Gettysburg Times Column

The Adams County Library System has a weekly column in the Gettysburg Times.

The December 21st column it was Littlestown's turn:

Changes abound at Littlestown Library

by Keith L Greenawalt, Littlestown Librarian

The Littlestown Library of the Adams County Library System has experienced many changes in the last six months. First of these is myself, the new librarian. My name is Keith Greenawalt, and although I am new to Littlestown I am not new to the Adams County Library System. I was the Outreach Librarian, working with the Bookmobile, for a year before moving to my current position. We’ve also had a number of other noticeable changes.

We’ve taken a big step into Cyberspace as a Library by launching our own blog. You can visit “Littlestown Library Shelf Notes” at http://littlestownlibrary.blogspot.com. It has all of the latest new and events taking place here at the Library. We post storytime themes, what kinds of items we rotate in, and what programs are going on, among other news. In the future we hope to do some basic podcasting of Library events, so stay tuned for more!

There are a few exciting changes in teen and children’s programs. We have added a Teen Movie afternoon one Saturday each month. We recently purchased a DVD projector to show these movies on a big screen. We provide the popcorn and sodas as well to complete your movie going experience without the sticky floors! It’s a great way to spend a Saturday. The Library will also be having a Holiday Family Movie Night on Thursday December 27th at 6:30 PM, where we will watch a movie about a magical journey to the North Pole on a special train. We have moved our Wednesday Storytime to 11 AM. This is being done to minimize interference with anyone’s lunchtime. We still offer Storytime Monday nights at 6:30 PM. As always, Storytime does not require registration. To see a list of Storytime themes, visit our new blog.

Also new to the Littlestown Library is a Book Discussion Group. It meets on a Friday, usually the second or third of the month, in the Library. We have already discussed such books as Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland and Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. Next we will be discussing Girl with Braided Hair by Margaret Coel on January 18 at 11 AM. Beginning in February, the Library will resume holding adult computer classes, now on the first Thursday of each month, with such topics as Searching the Internet, Internet Email, and Using the Mouse. Registration is required for Computer Classes, just call the Library to do so.

In addition to programming, we continue to have books, DVDs, CDs, audio books, and Internet access here at the library. We are located in the Littlestown Community Center at 46 W. King St., next to the Alpha Fire Company. For more information on any of our programs or services please visit our website at http://www.adamslibrary.org/littlestown, our blog at http://www.littlestownlibrary.blogspot.com, or call the Library at 717-359-0446. Have a safe and happy holiday season from all of us at the Littlestown Library.
